                      Unreal 2 forums (http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/),

Description : Damage is a singleplayer mod for Unreal 2, featuring
a new player model, new weapons and enemies, a
modern-day setting and an original story.

Story : The story of Damage concerns a man named Edward, who works
as a miner in the precious minerals mine near the small
town he lives in. On the day that the mod begins, all the
workers are clearing out of the mine, as following a spate
of accidents, safety inspectors have been called in to
look the mine over for the next few days. As he arrives at
his car, Edward realises he has left his keys in his locker
                      - in the break room - in the mine. He goes back down into
the mine to retrieve them. While he is down there, there
is what appears to be an earthquake, and parts of the mine
collapse, trapping him inside. He must find a way out -
and once he does, he will discover that something quite
strange and terrible has occurred on the surface.

Instructions : To install damage, the files in the damage zip file need
to be extracted to the appropriate directories in your
\Unreal2\ folder. You should be able to extract the
contents of the zip file directly into your \Unreal2\
folder with an option like "Use folder names" enabled
in your decompression program (Eg: Winzip), and have the
files end up in the right place; but just in case, this
is where they are supposed to go:

                      _______________

                      Unreal2\damage_readme.txt (this file)

                      Unreal2\Maps\damage*.un2

                      Unreal2\Meshes\GlmdamagemodG.ugx
                      Unreal2\Meshes\damagemod\*.gem

                      Unreal2\Sounds\*.uax

                      Unreal2\StaticMeshes\damageM.usx

                      Unreal2\System\damage.u
                      Unreal2\System\DAMWeapons.int

                      Unreal2\Textures\*.utx
                      _______________

Of course you can also use this list to see what files
to delete when you've finished with damage. When
everything is extracted properly, run Unreal 2, and
once it's loaded up, hit the Tab key to open the command
                      console and type this:

                      start damage_me

Then hit enter and Unreal 2 will load the first level
                      of damage. Enjoy!

NB - It is strongly reccomended that you have "Display
Objectives" enabled (it's in the "HUD" section of
                      Unreal 2's options).

New Sounds : YES
New Models : YES
New Skins : YES

* Production *

Time Investment : Approx. 2 years (closer to 1 year if you don't count
the period before I switched from Deus Ex to Unreal 2)

Software Used : UnrealEd 3.0, GolemEd Studio, 3dsmax 4 & 5,
                          Photoshop 6 & 7, Illustrator, Notepad.

Known Issues / Bugs : Guns used by cleansuit men flash interesting
                          colours for some reason.

You have to manually switch to the custom player
model for Damage (if you want to use it). Hit TAB
to bring up the console, and type
                          SET U2PLAYERSP MESH LEGENDMESH'GlmdamagemodG.Edward'
and then press enter. (It's not case sensitive).
Unfortunately you have to do this on every level...
however once typed in, each successive time you can
open the console and hit the up and down cursor key
to cycle through previous commands as a shortcut.

The energy shield used by the player in Unreal 2 has
proven a huge pain to remove (doesn't fit with
setting). I had to resort to a makeshift method that
mostly works most of the time.

Damage is intended for play with ragdoll deaths
enabled, and the MinDesiredFrameRate (found in
\Unreal2\Unreal2.ini) set to a relatively low number
like 10, so that ragdoll deaths will still play if
the game slows down a bit. This is purely for
                          cosmetic reasons of course.
